The Shakedown (or ‘final practice’ stage) for this years Rally Catalunya - Costa Daurada takes place along the road from the village of Porrera towards Falset. The stage seems a somewhat unusual choice for shakedown, as it is quite demanding in nature with some big drops off the edge of the valley, particularly mid-stage around 1.2 to 3.5kms in, to catch out the unwary. Any mistakes along the mid-section of this test, could potentially result in some major repairs, or even a failure to start.

Nonetheless, drivers will attempt the stage several times at competitive speeds, to make last minute adjustments to their car’s settings and try out the latest compound of tyre. Drivers are obligated to make at least 3 runs through the stage, however the top works teams often run early on in the session, to give more time for preparation for the evening start, and the driver’s PR and press functions. As a result, we suggest you arrive earlier rather than later, to ensure you get chance to see all the top teams in action.

The stage winds its way around a steep valley, with the best viewing areas situated in the section near to the start. The road surface throughout is smooth, but not very wide and the stage is inherently twisty.

Access to the stage will be from near the start, or in the vicinity of the finish (where access may well be restricted). Parking could be a considerable distance from the stage finish, as it will either be on the road that competitors use to leave the stage, or a 4km walk into it from the junction where it ends. There is no access to the shakedown stage from any mid-point.

In any case, probably the best section for spectating on this stage is at around 250m in from the start, where there is a good sequence of bends with a bank along one side from which to watch in safety. As this area is quite close to the start, early arrival will doubtless be essential, to ensure a decent view. This is however, probably the best place to watch on this stage.

After the ‘works’ teams have finished at 11:00 the JWRC and top privateer teams will run through the stage from 11:00 to 14:00. A small ‘satellite’ SERVICE AREA - will be set up this year in Falset Village, to allow the teams to work on the cars between runs through shakedown.

This is located just off the N-420 road quite close to ‘POINT E’, and can be accessed by turning left just before the ‘Falset’ village sign as you come down the hill from the direction of Reus. Parking for this will be near to the small Falset Football Stadium, in the village itself, on direction of the organisers. The service area is approximately 16.6kms from the start of the stage and 6km from the finish.
